Similar to last year’s Post Secondary Recruitment (PSR) campaign,  the online / unsupervised Public Service Entrance Exam (PSEE) UIT 370 is composed of two separate exams (often called sub-tests: the Test of Reasoning and the Test of Judgement). All applicants are asked to take the Test of Reasoning (sub-test 1). The test of Judgement (sub-test 2) is required only if additional information is needed to complete the assessment. Usually this is determined by what stream an applicant applies to.

The PSEE can be written in an unsupervised environment anywhere you have access to a computer and an Internet connection. Your score will apply to all exams that you apply to in this PSR . Hence, it is imperative to get a good mark in this exam. Note that you must pass the online unsupervised PSEE to be invited to attend the in-person testing of the PSEE.

Public Service Entrance Exam (UIT 370)

The Public Service Entrance Exam [Unsupervised Internet Test (UIT) 370] is composed of two separate exams [often called sub-tests: the Test of Reasoning Sub-test 1) and the Test of Judgement Sub-test 2)]. All applicants are asked to take the Test of Reasoning (Sub-test 1).

The test of Judgement (Sub-test 2) is required only if additional information is needed to complete the assessment. Usually this is determined by the career stream to which you apply.
The PSEE UIT 370 can be written in an unsupervised environment anywhere you have access to a computer and an Internet connection. Your score will apply to all exams that you apply to in each PSR campaign. Hence, it is imperative to obtain a high mark in this exam. Note that you must pass the unsupervised PSEE to be invited to attend the in-person testing of the PSEE.

Number of questions and time limit

Sub-Test 1: Test of Reasoning

  • Sub-test 1 is composed of 26 multiple choice questions. 25 questions count towards the final score and one question is a pilot question that does not count towards the final score. The Public Service Commission uses this question in future versions of this sub-test.
  • The time limit is 90 minutes to complete this sub-test.

Sub-Test 2: Test of Judgement

  • This sub-test consists of 52 multiple choice questions (no pilot questions). All questions count towards the final score.
  • The time limit is 75 minutes to complete this sub-test.

Pass mark

Each hiring manager sets the passing mark for their job position(s). As a result, the pass marks for each of the PSEE-UIT 370 Sub-tests can vary across job positions. This means that candidates that do not score extremely well on the sub-tests will be screened out of many job offers in the future.

The minimum pass mark requires that applicants place in the top 90 percent of a large sample of previous test-takers for Sub-test 1 (10th percentile) and in the top 80 percent for Sub-test 2 (20th percentile). Hiring managers can choose to set the pass mark higher at their discretion (up to the 50th percentile). Applicants who meet this standard are in the top 50 percent of test takers.

Note: Departments that have a history of comprehensive, long screening processes will likely set the pass mark near the 50th percentile for the online PSEE.

Test results

Your test results will be used along with other screening criteria established by hiring managers.

If you pass both PSEE-UIT 370 sub-tests and you meet the other screening criteria used by the hiring manager (e.g., education, screening questions, asset qualifications), you will be considered for additional testing.
