where to find canadian government jobs
Canada is presently experiencing a slow population growth rate and as well as an aging population. There are several methods of finding employment in the government. Below, we will explore these options very briefly that may lead to the job of your dreams, or at the very least, a position that will get you a foot in the door and a secure job in the federal government.

Option 1: www. jobs.gc.ca

Advantages:

• Search according to your interests, salary expectations, location, department of choice and/or profession.

Disadvantages:

• Process is long, recruitment process is slow.

Option 2: Part-time work (12.5 or less per week -usually found through
networking)

Advantages:

• Possibility of working in the department of your choice while obtaining valuable government work experience.

Disadvantages:

• You are not entitled to the benefits of full-time workers. • Not being in the office everyday, may create a distance between you and your co-workers.

Option 3: Casual worker

Advantages:

• Provides you with an opportunity to have a valuable work experience in a government environment.

• Possibility to establish a professional network.

• You have the option of changing departments after 90 days. If you do not like the department where you are working.

Disadvantages:

• You are not entitled to the same benefits as full-time workers.

• Your contact is for a maximum of 90 days per year at the same department. If you like the department where you are working but there is no money to bring you in on a term or indeterminate position, you are out of luck because you must leave the department.

• It may be difficult to break the stigma of a casual worker before getting a permanent position. • Jobs are usually offered by “word of mouth”.

Option 4: Placement Agencies

Advantages:

• Full-time position in a government setting.

• Possibility of making a positive impression on managers and co-workers.

• Ability to establish a professional network.

Disadvantages:

• You are doing the same job as a government employee but are gaining wages set by the agency.

Never rule out the possibility of working as a part-time worker, a casual worker, or with a placement agency. You will be first to know about potential job offers often for full-time and permanent positions. In addition, there is less competition for these jobs because they are not posted!
